Experience kayaking in the mangrove jungle
Mangroves are found in tropical and sub-tropical areas. In Japan, mangroves can only be seen in the south, primarily in Okinawa, with mangrove kayaking a popular nature activity. As mangroves function as buffers of harsh sunlight, this activity is popular amongst women who want to avoid the strong UV rays of the mid-summer season, as well as small children and older adults. Unlike swimming, which is restricted to the summer high season, mangrove kayaking can be enjoyed throughout the year, making it a popular leisure activity in Okinawa. There are three main locations where mangrove kayaking can be experienced - Gesashi, Okukubi and Hija. Choosing a location that’s close to other activities of your choice is recommended. The Hijagawa area is easily accessible from the major sightseeing spots of Okinawa. It is also accessible from Naha Airport in the south and the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in the mid-North, making it an ideal location in terms of transport.
